Tomato Masala Kootu

Ingredients

Onions
- 2

Tomato
- ½ kg
•
Oil (for frying)
- as required
•
Turmeric powder
- ¼ teaspoon
•
Mustard seeds
- ½ teaspoon
•
Urad dal
- 1 teaspoon
•
Red chilly powder
- 1 teaspoon
•
Curry leaves
- 1 sprig
•
Salt
- as required
Ingredients For Grinding Together
•
Mint leaves
- 1 bunch
•
Coriander leaves
- 1 bunch
•
Coconut (fresh, grated)
- ½ cup
•
Poppy seeds (soaked in hot water for 10 minutes)
- 1 ½ tablespoons
•
Green chillies
- 4
•
Cumin seeds
- ½ teaspoon
•
Mustard seeds
- ¼ teaspoon
Method
1.
Cut
onions
finely and
tomatoes
into 1½ inch cubes.
2.
Heat
oil
in a deep pan and
add
mustard
,
urad
dhal,
curry leaves
.
3. When it splutters
add
chopped
onion
and
fry
till crisp.
4.
Add
chilly
powder
,
turmeric powder
.
Stir
for a minute and
pour
ground paste
.
5.
Mix
enough
salt
and
stir
till good smell comes from that.
6.
Add
tomato
pieces, enough
water
and
cook
till gravy thickens.
7.
Serve
hot with Idli, dosa or chapatis.
