Tomato Chutney - Chettinad

Ingredients
•
Tomato (ripe)
- ½ kg
•
Red chillies
- 12
•
Garlic
- 10 flakes
•
Onion (small, peeled)
- 200 grams
•
Tamarind
- lime size
•
Salt
- as required
•
Coriander leaf
- 1 small bunch
•
Curry leaves
- a little
•
Oil
- 1 tablespoon
Ingredients For Seasoning
•
Mustard seeds
- ½ teaspoon
•
Urad dal
- 1 teaspoon
•
Asafoetidas
- a pinch
Method
1.
Heat
oil
in a pan,
add
red chillies
,
garlic
, peeled
onions
and
fry
for 12 minutes.
2.
Add
cut
tomatoes
and
fry
till it is soft.
3.
Remove
from fire,
add
curry leaves
,
coriander leaves
salt
and
grind
with soaked
tamarind
.
4.
Heat
rest of the
oil
in a
frying
pan, season with
mustard
, black gram
dal
,
asafoetida
.
5.
Add
ground
mixture
and
fry
till it smells good.
6. When it is thick enough (chutney consistency)
remove
from fire.
7.
Serve
with Idlis or Pulkas.
