Ridge Gourd Dal

Ingredients
•
Coconut (grated)
- ½ cup
•
Fennel seeds
- ½ teaspoon
•
Oil
- 1 tablespoon
•
Cloves
- 1 teaspoon
•
Cinnamon stick
- 1 inch
•
Onions (grated)
- 1 cup
•
Curry leaves
- 1 sprig
•
Ginger-garlic paste
- 2 teaspoons
•
Red chilly powder
- 2 teaspoons
•
Turmeric powder
- ½ teaspoon
•
Channa dal (cooked)
- 1 cup
•
Ridge gourd (cut into pieces)
- ½ kg
•
Salt
- as required
Method
1. De-skin
ridge gourd
and
cut
into small pieces.
Keep
aside.
2.
Soak
the
channa dal
in
water
for 30 minutes. Par
boil
channa dal
.
Keep
aside.
3.
Grind
coconut
and
fennel seeds
with
water
.
Keep
aside.
4.
Heat
oil
in a
frying
pan.
Add
cloves
and
cinnamon
pieces. Saute for 10 seconds.
5.
Add
chopped
onion
and
curry leaves
. Saute until
onions
turn brown.
6.
Add
the
ginger-garlic paste
,
chilly
powder
and
turmeric powder
. Saute for 10 seconds.
7.
Add
the par boiled
channa dal
and saute for 5 minutes.
8.
Add
the chopped
ridge gourd
, and
salt
.
Add
sufficient
water
.
Cook
by
covering
with a lid for 10 minutes.
9. Once the
ridge gourd
is cooked,
add
the
coconut
paste
.
Mix
well and
cook
for another 2 minutes.
10.
Serve
. Your yummy '
Ridge Gourd
Dal
' is ready which will go very well with rice and chapati or any Indian bread.
