Paruppu Keerai Masiyal

Ingredients

• • Green gram dal - ¼ cup
• • Keerais/Amaranth leaves - 1 bunch
• • Salt - ½ teaspoon

Ingredients For Grinding Together

• • Coconut - 2 tablespoons
• • Jeera - 1 teaspoon
• • Tuvar dal - 1 teaspoon
• • Red chilly (dry) - 1
• • Asafoetida powder - a pinch
• • Water - 1 tablespoon

Ingredients For Seasoning

• • Oil - 2 teaspoons
• • Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
• • Urad dal - 1 teaspoon
• • Red chilly - 1

Method

• 1. Boil water, add green gram dal.
• 2. Once the dal is soft add keerai/amaranth leaves and cook till wilted. Add salt and keep aside.
• 3. Grind until smooth - coconut, jeera, tuvar dal, dry red chilly, asafoetida powder and water.
• 4. Add grinded paste into the cooked keerai. Mix well and keep aside.
• 5. In a pan, heat oil. Add mustard seeds and wait for it to splutter. Add urad dal. When urad dal starts to brown add red chilly.
• 6. Pour fried mustard seeds mixture on top of the keerai.
• 7. Serve.
