Nimbu Dal

Ingredients

Green gram dal
- ½ cup
•
Ginger
- ½ inch piece
•
Turmeric powder
- ¼ teaspoon
•
Potato (boiled)
- 1
•
Onions (finely chopped)
- ½ cup
•
Green chillies (slit)
- 2
•
Cumin seeds
- ½ teaspoon
•
Curry leaves
- 1 sprig
•
Tomatoes (finely chopped)
- 2
•
Salt
- as required
•
Sambar powder
- ½ teaspoon
•
Lime
- 1
•
Coriander leaves (chopped)
- 1 tablespoon
•
Oil
- 1 ½ tablespoons
Ingredients For Grinding To A Paste
•
Coconut (grated)
- 1 ½ tablespoons
•
Poppy seeds
- ½ teaspoon
•
Aniseeds
- ¼ teaspoon
•
Cinnamon
- ½ inch piece
•
Cloves
- a few
Method
1.
Wash
and
cook
dal
with chopped
ginger
and
turmeric powder
.
Mash
it well.
2.
Heat
oil
in a pan, season with
cumin seeds
,
green chillies
,
curry leaves
and then
add
chopped
onions
.
3.
Stir
till it turns golden and then
add
chopped
tomatoes
.
4.
Cook
till
tomatoes
becomes pulpy.
5.
Add
mashed
dal
, mashed
potato
, ground
masala
paste
,
salt
and
sambar powder
.
6.
Add
little
water
if needed.
7.
Cook
well. Squeeze
lime
and garnish with
coriander leaves
.
