Mirch Masala Dal Chicken

Ingredients
•
Boneless chicken
- 500 grams
•
Channa dal/Split bengal grams
- ¾ cup
•
Onions (chopped finely)
- 3
•
Ginger-garlic paste
- 2 tablespoons
•
Tomatoes (chopped finely)
- 3
•
Red chillies (dried, broken)
- 4
•
Jeera
- 1 teaspoon
•
Chilly powder
- 1 teaspoon
•
Coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon
•
Amchurs/Mango powder
- 1 teaspoon
•
Salt
- as required
•
Oil
- 5 tablespoons
Ingredients For Garnishing
•
Coriander leaves
- a little
•
Green chillies (slit)
- as required
•
Ginger (julienned)
- a few
Method
1.
Wash
the
dal
.
Add
2 cups
water
and ½ Teaspoon
salt
to the
dal
and
cook
covered till it is done.
2.
Make
sure it does not turn mushy.
Drain
the
dal
and retain the
water
.
Keep
aside.
3.
Heat
oil
in a non stick pan or a heavy bottomed pan.
Add
jeera
and let it turn golden.
4.
Add
the
red chillies
and
onions
.
Cook
till
onions
turn light brown.
5.
Add
the
ginger-garlic paste
.
Stir
for 1 minute.
Add
the
tomatoes
, dry
spices
and
salt
.
Cook
till
oil
separates.
6.
Add
the
chicken
pieces to the
masala
and
cook
on high flame till
water
evaporates.
7. Lower the
heat
and
add
some retained
dal
water
.
8.
Cover
and
cook
till the
chicken
is absolutely tender.
9.
Add
the cooked
dal
and gently
stir
fry
for 1 minute.
10. Garnish with
coriander
,
ginger
juliennes and thinly slit
green chillies
.
