Gujarati Dal

Ingredients

• • Thuar dal - ½ cup
• • Tomatoes - 3
• • Red chilly powder - ½ teaspoon
• • Salt - 1 teaspoon
• • Groundnuts (raw) - ½ cup
• • Oil - 1 tablespoon
• • Cumin seeds - ½ teaspoon
• • Cinnamon - 1 inch piece
• • Cloves - 3
• • Turmeric powder - ¼ teaspoon
• • Coriander leaves - 1 tablespoon
• • Lemon - 1

Ingredients For Crushing Coarsely

• • Green chillies - 5
• • Ginger - ½ inch piece

Method

• 1. Pressure cook dal in enough water with turmeric powder.
• 2. Chop tomatoes into 1 inch cubes.
• 3. Heat oil in a frying pan. Add cumin seeds, cloves, cinnamon and then chopped tomatoes.
• 4. Fry till it turns pulpy.
• 5. Mix cooked dal, chilly powder, salt and raw peanuts.
• 6. Boil for 1 or 2 minutes and then add crushed ginger and chillies.
• 7. Cook for few minutes and remove from fire.
• 8. Squeeze lemon juice and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
• 9. Serve hot with chapatis or pulkas.
