Gonkura Pappu

Ingredients

Thuar dal
- ½ cup

Gonkura leaves
- 2 cups
•
Onions (chopped)
- 2 tablespoons
•
Turmeric powder
- ¼ teaspoon
•
Garlic
- 3
•
Salt
- as required
•
Red chillies
- 2
•
Mustard seeds
- ¼ teaspoon
•
Asafoetidas
- a pinch
•
Oils for seasoning
- 1 tablespoon
•
Tamarind extract
- very little
•
Fenugreek seeds
- ½ teaspoon

Dhania
- 1 ½ teaspoons
•
Green chillies
- 5
Method
1. Pressure
cook
dal
along with
gonkura leaves
till 2 to 3 whistles.
2. Allow to cool,
remove
lid and
mash
the
dal
lightly with wooden masher.
3.
Heat
oil
,
add
mustard
, broken
red chillies
few
fenugreek seeds
, chopped
garlic
and then
onion
.
4.
Fry
till
onions
become transparent.
5.
Add
to
dal
with
ground paste
,
tamarind extract
,
salt
and
cook
till thick.
6.
Serve
hot with cooked rice.
