Dry White Peas Subji

Ingredients

White peas (dry)
- 1 cup
•
Potatoes
- 3
•
Tomatoes
- 4
•
Coriander leaves
- 2 bunches
•
Chilly powder
- 2 teaspoons
•
Turmeric powder
- ½ teaspoon
•
Cumin seeds
- ½ teaspoon
•
Oil
- 2 tablespoons
•
Salt
- as required
•
Garam masala powder
- 1 teaspoon
•
Ghee
- 1 tablespoon

Dhania
- 2 teaspoons
•
Cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon
•
Pepper
- ½ teaspoon
•
Cardamoms
- 3
Ingredients For Grinding Together
•
Onions (big)
- 2
•
Ginger
- 1 ½ inch pieces
•
Garlic
- 10 flakes
Method
1.
Fry
all the
spices
in a tea spoon of
ghee
and
powder
it.
2.
Soak
peas
8 to 10 hours.
3.
Wash
well before
cooking
.
4.
Peel
and
dice
potatoes
into big pieces.
5.
Cut
tomatoes
and
coriander leaves
finely.
6.
Heat
oil
in cooker, season with
cumin seeds
.
7. When it splutters
add
ground paste
and
fry
till
oil
separates from it.
8. To this
add
soaked
peas
, diced
potatoes
,
tomatoes
, half of the
coriander leaves
,
salt
,
chilly powder
and
turmeric powder
.
9.
Mix
well and
add
enough
water
to
cover
it completely.
10.
Cook
for 5 to 7 minutes in reduced flame, after the whistle sound.
11.
Remove
the lid.
12. Allow to cool,
add
roasted
masala
powder
and rest of the
coriander leaves
.
13. Squeeze out lemon juice,
mix
well and
serve
hot.
14. If the
tomatoes
are not sour,
add
little tamarind extract.
15.
Add
salt
after pressure
cooking
peas
. Otherwise
peas
takes longer time to
cook
.
