Colocaesia Macial

Ingredients
•
Colocaesia/Yam/Seppankilangu
- ½ kg
•
Tamarind extract (thick)
- 2 tablespoons
•
Green chillies
- 7
•
Ginger
- 1 inch piece
•
Salt
- as required
•
Coconut (grated, fresh)
- 1 ½ tablespoons
•
Coconut oil (for frying)
- as required
Ingredients For Seasoning
•
Oil
- 1 tablespoon
•
Mustard seeds
- ½ teaspoon
•
Urad dal
- 1 teaspoon
•
Bengal gram dal
- 1 teaspoon
Method
1. Pressure
cook
yam
and
remove
outer skin. (Do not over
cook
)
2.
Slice
ginger
and
chillies
into fine pieces.
3.
Mash
the cooked
yam
coarsely.
4.
Heat
oil
in a
frying
pan,
add
seasonings
,
chillies
and
ginger
.
5.
Fry
for a minute and
add
mashed
yam
,
tamarind extract
,
salt
and
stir
fry
for 5 to 10 minutes.
6.
Fry
coconut
in
coconut oil
till golden yellow and
add
to macial just before
removing
from fire.
Note - Variations
• Omit
tamarind extract
. Squeeze lemon after
removing
from fire.
• Instead of
colocaesia
use malabhar
yam
and
prepare
macial in the above method.
•
Grind
chillies
and
ginger
to fine
paste
and then
fry
with
seasonings
.
