Chow Chow Poricha Kootu

Ingredients
•
Chow-chow pieces (diced)
- 2 cups
•
Bengal gram dal
- ½ cup
•
Salt
- as required
•
Curry leaves
- 1 sprig
Ingredients For Seasoning
•
Oil
- 2 teaspoons
•
Mustard seeds
- ¼ teaspoon
Ingredients For Grinding Together
•
Red chillies
- 6
•
Cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon
•
Black gram dal/Urads
- 1 teaspoon
Method
1.
Fry
the "For
Grinding
together"
spices
in little
oil
and
grind
with ¼ cup grated fresh coconut.
2.
Scrape
outer skin and
dice
the
vegetable
into 1 inch cubes.
3.
Cook
it along with
bengal gram dal
in just enough
water
till
dal
becomes just soft to touch.
4.
Add
ground paste
,
salt
and
cook
till thick.
5.
Heat
oil
,
add
seasonings
and
mix
with kootu.
6. Garnish with
curry leaves
.
Note - Other Suggested Vegetables
• White pumpkin, snake gourd, radish,
vegetable
marrow etc.
Method To Make Milagu Kootu
1. Use radish, drumstick, snake gourd, broad beans or
greens
to
make
this type of kootu.
2. Use either green
gram
dal
or
bengal gram dal
.
3. While
grinding
,
add
one or two
red chillies
and 1 Teaspoon of
pepper
along with coconut.
4. Season
mustard
and
urad
dal
in gingelly
oil
.
