Cabbage Kootu

Ingredients
•
Green gram dal
- ¼ cup
•
Cabbages (chopped finely)
- 1 cup
•
Salt
- as required
•
Turmeric powder
- ¼ teaspoon
•
Curry leaves
- 1 sprig
Ingredients For Seasoning
•
Oil
- 2 teaspoons
•
Mustard seeds
- ¼ teaspoon
Ingredients For Grinding Together
•
Coconut (grated, fresh)
- 2 tablespoons
•
Green chillies
- 5
•
Cumin seeds
- ½ teaspoon
Method
1.
Wash
dal
,
add
vegetable
and enough
water
.
2.
Cook
till
dal
and
vegetable
becomes tender.
3.
Add
ground paste
,
salt
,
turmeric powder
and
boil
for few more minutes.
4.
Add
seasonings
and
curry leaves
just before
removing
from fire.
Note - Variations
•
Grind
½ inch piece of ginger along with other
ingredients
.
•
Add
chopped tomatoes also while
cooking
.
• Pressure
cook
thuar
dal
and then do the recipe instead of
green gram dal
.
• Dry
roast
1 Teaspoon of black
gram
dal
(urad),
powder
it and
add
just before
removing
from fire.
•
Add
l onion and
grind
coarsely at the end while
grinding
coconut
.
Add
little powdered aniseed while
•
Seasoning
. Omit
green chillies
.
Add
little red
chilly
powder
.
Note - Other Suggested Vegetables
• Snake gourd, cauliflower, chow-chow, ridge-gourd, brinjal, beans, banana stem.
