Ingredients
•
Rice
- 1 cup
•
Green gram dal
- ½ cup
•
Ghee
- 2 tablespoons
•
Black pepper
- 1 ½ teaspoons
•
Cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon
•
Salt
- as required
•
Water
- 5 cups
•
Cashew nuts (broken)
- 1 tablespoon
•
Ginger (finely cut)
- 1 tablespoon
(optional)
•
Curry leaves
- few
Method
1.
Wash
rice
and
dal
together and
pour
five cups of
water
.
2. Pressure
cook
for 10 minutes.
3. After
removing
the lid,
add
salt
,
curry leaves
,
ginger
with half a cup of milk.
4.
Fry
cashew nuts
,
pepper
and
cumin seeds
in
ghee
.
5.
Pour
over pongal,
mix
well and
serve
steaming hot with
ghee
on top.
Note
•
Reduce
the volume of
water
if you are
cooking
directly in pressure cooker.
•
Reduce
flame after
keeping
the weight.
• Do not
soak
rice
.
