Vegetarian Kola Urundai Kuzhambu

Ingredients For Making Kola
•
Bengal gram flour
- ¾ cup
•
Turmeric powder
- ½ teaspoon
•
Ghee
- 2 tablespoons
•
Salt
- as required
•
Chilly powder
- ½ teaspoon
Ingredients For Making Masala
•
Onions (finely cut)
- 1 cup
•
Tomatoes (chopped)
- ½ cup
•
Salt
- as required
•
Oil (for frying)
- as required
•
Mustard seeds
- ½ teaspoon
•
Curry leaves
- 1 sprig
•
Asafoetida powder
- a pinch
•
Coriander leaves
- 1 tablespoon
•
Coconut (fresh, grated)
- 1 tablespoon
Ingredients For Grinding Together
•
Red chillies
- 6
•
Poppy seeds
- 1 tablespoon
•
Garlic
- 4 flakes
•
Ginger
- ½ inch piece
•
Coriander leaves
- ½ bunch
Method To Prepare Kola
1.
Mix
turmeric powder
,
salt
,
chilly powder
, melted
ghee
with
bengal gram flour
and
mix
well.
2. Sprinkle
water
and knead like chapati dough.
3.
Prepare
medium sized balls and
roll
it to oblong pieces.
4. Arrange on a greased plate and steam
cook
(like Idlis) for 7 minutes.
5. Allow to cool and
cut
into round pieces. Deep
fry
in
oil
till crisp.
Keep
aside.
Method To Prepare Gravy
1.
Heat
oil
in a
frying
pan,
add
mustard seeds
,
curry leaves
and then chopped
onions
.
2.
Fry
till golden and then
add
tomatoes
.
Stir
till it turns pulpy.
3.
Add
ground paste
,
salt
and
stir
till good smell comes.
4.
Pour
enough
water
and
boil
for few minutes.
5.
Mix
deep fried Kolas and
remove
from fire.
6. Sprinkle
coriander leaves
, grated fresh
coconut
on top and
serve
hot.
