Tomato Kuzhambu

Ingredients

• • Tomatoes - 6
• • Green chillies (sliced lengthwise) - 3
• • Curry leaves - few
• • Onions (big) - 2
• • Turmeric powder - ¼ teaspoon
• • Coconut extract (thick) - 1 cup
• • Garam masala powder - as required
• • Coconut milk - ½ cup

Ingredients For Grinding Together (1)

• • Red chillies - 5
• • Ginger - ¼ inch piece
• • Cumin seeds - ½ teaspoon
• • Coconut (grated, fresh) - 1 ½ tablespoons

Ingredients For Grinding Together (2)

• • Coconut (grated, fresh) - ¼ cup
• • Poppy seeds - 2 teaspoons

Method

• 1. Slice onions lengthwise and tomatoes into big cubes.
• 2. Heat little oil and fry green chillies, onion and curry leaves.
• 3. Add ground paste (1), tomato pieces, turmeric powder and little water.
• 4. Close with a lid and cook till tomatoes become soft.
• 5. Add coconut milk and cook for few minutes in reduced flame.
• 6. Add salt, ground paste (2) and allow the gravy to come to boiling point.
• 7. Remove from fire and serve hot with cooked rice.
