Tamarind Upma

Ingredients

Rice (raw)
- 1 cup
•
Par boiled rice
- 1 cup
•
Coconut
- ½
•
Jaggery
- a little
•
Red chillies
- 10
•
Asafoetidas
- as required
•
Tamarind
- medium lemon size
•
Salt
- 2 teaspoons
•
Oil
- ¼ cup
Ingredients For Tampering
•
Mustard seeds
- ¼ teaspoon
•
Black gram dal
- 1 teaspoon
•
Bengal gram dal
- 2 teaspoons
•
Curry leaves
- few
•
Red chillies (broken)
- few
Method
1.
Soak
both
rice
varieties together in
water
for 2 to 3 hours.
2.
Grind
it along with
red chillies
, grated
coconut
,
salt
, and
asafoetida
till fine rawa consistency. (Thick
paste
)
3.
Soak
tamarind
in
water
and take a thick extract.
4.
Mix
with
ground paste
.
5.
Heat
oil
in a heavy bottom deep curved pan,
add
seasonings
and
pour
ground paste
.
6.
Stir
constantly till raw flavour is lost and
oil
separates from upma. (Approximately 30 to 45 minutes)
7.
Serve
with diced onions (raw).
