Green Gram Dal Sambar

Ingredients

Green gram dal
- 2 tablespoons
•
Sambar onions
- ½ cup
•
Green chillies
- 3
•
Tomatoes
- 2
•
Tamarind extract (thick)
- 2 tablespoons
•
Turmeric powder
- ¼ teaspoon
•
Sambar powder
- 2 teaspoons
•
Salt
- as required
•
Curry leaves
- 1 sprig
Ingredients For Seasoning
•
Mustard seeds
- ½ teaspoon
•
Black gram dal
- 1 teaspoon
•
Bengal gram dal
- 1 teaspoon
Method
1. Pressure
cook
dal
till one whistle sound.
2.
Chop
tomatoes
.
3.
Peel
small
onions
.
4. Slit
green chillies
.
5.
Fry
green chillies
,
onions
and
tomatoes
in
oil
.
6.
Add
cooked
dal
,
salt
,
sambar powder
,
tamarind extract
with enough
water
.
7.
Boil
till thick.
8. In little
oil
tamper
mustard seeds
,
black gram dal
and
bengal gram dal
.
9.
Pour
over
sambar
and garnish with
curry leaves
.
Note - Variations
• Use whole
green gram
in place of
dal
.
Soak
in
water
for 10 hours. Pressure
cook
,
mash
little and do the
sambar
.
