Ingredients

Bread

Onions

Ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon

Tomato
- ¼ kg
•
Green chillies
- 4

Sambar powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons
•
Powder salt
- 2 teaspoons
•
Oil
- 6 tablespoons
Ingredients For Seasoning
•
Mustard seeds
- ½ teaspoon
•
Black gram dal
- 1 teaspoon
•
Bengal gram dal
- 2 teaspoons
•
Cashew nuts (broken)
- 1 tablespoon
•
Coriander (cut, for garnishing)
- 1 tablespoon
•
Curry leaves (for garnishing)
- 1 tablespoon
Method
1.
Cut
bread
into 1 inch square pieces.
2.
Slice
onions
,
chillies
lengthwise and
tomatoes
finely.
3.
Heat
oil
,
add
seasonings
and then
ginger-garlic paste
.
4. Continue
frying
with
chillies
,
onion
and then
tomatoes
.
5.
Fry
till moisture is absorbed.
6. Sprinkle
salt
, little sugar and
sambar powder
.
7.
Mix
well and
add
bread
pieces.
8.
Stir
till upma becomes hot and everything is mixed well.
9.
Add
garnishings and
serve
hot.
Variations
• Thick tamarind extract can be added along with
tomatoes
with little jaggery for
taste
.
•
Add
three Tablespoons of roasted groundnut
powder
in the above recipe, after
tomatoes
are fried.
• Omit
sambar powder
.
•
Add
more
green chillies
.
