Black Masoor Usal

Ingredients
•
Black masoors (with skin)
- ½ cup
•
Onions (finely cut)
- ¼ cup
•
Garlic (chopped)
- 4 flakes
•
Garlic (crushed)
- 2 flakes
•
Asafoetidas
- a pinch
•
Oil
- as required
•
Mustard seeds
- ¼ teaspoon
•
Black pepper (crushed coarsely)
- ½ teaspoon
•
Cumin seeds
- ½ teaspoon
•
Curry leaves
- few
•
Turmeric powder
- ¼ teaspoon
•
Red chilly powder
- ½ teaspoon
•
Salt
- as required
•
Sugar
- a little
•
Masala powder
- a little
Ingredients For Making Masala Powder
•
Dhania (dry roast)
- 1 tablespoon
•
Pepper
- ½ teaspoon
•
Dahad fools
- a few
•
Cloves
- 8
•
Cinnamon stick
- 1
Method
1.
Soak
dal
in enough
water
for 2 hours.
2.
Heat
oil
in a shallow pan and
add
mustard seeds
,
cumin seed
,
asafoetida
,
curry leaves
, crushed
pepper
, crushed
garlic
and then half of the chopped
onions
.
3.
Fry
for few minutes and then
add
salt
,
chilly
powder
,
sugar
and soaked
dal
.
4.
Mix
well,
add
enough
water
and
cover
with a lid.
5.
Stir
in between and
cook
till
dal
splits.
6.
Add
rest of the
onions
, chopped
garlic
and garam
masala powder
.
7. Sprinkle
water
and
fry
till well cooked and dry.
8.
Add
more
oil
if necessary.
9.
Serve
as a dry snack (Like sundal)
Method To Make Masala Powder
1. Dry
roast
dhania
,
pepper
,
dahad fool
,
cloves
,
cinnamon
etc. separately.
2.
Powder
together and
preserve
in airtight container.
