Tomato Gotsu

Ingredients

• • Tomato (ripe) - ½ kg
• • Salt - as required
• • Onions (large, chopped) - 2
• • Oil (for frying) - as required

Ingredients For Grinding Together

• • Red chillies - 7
• • Dhania - 1 tablespoon
• • Cumin seeds - 1 ½ teaspoons
• • Coconut (grated, fresh) - ¼ cup
• • Bengal gram dal - 2 teaspoons

Method

• 1. Heat water in a broad vessel.
• 2. When it starts boiling slip tomatoes in it one by one.
• 3. Allow to boil once and switch off the stove.
• 4. Allow to cool, strain water, remove outer skin and mash it well.
• 5. Heat oil in a 'frying pan' add cut onions and fry until golden.
• 6. Add ground paste and stir until good aroma comes from the masala.
• 7. Add salt and mashed tomatoes.
• 8. Allow to boil for few minutes.
• 9. Serve with idli, pongal varieties.
